Will Arnett’s Lego Batman character in The Lego Movie was such a hit that Warner Bros. has greenlit a big-screen spinoff. What’s more, the film is already being fast-tracked, indicating just how much the studio believes in the character, who was a sarcastic but suave version of the typically brooding Dark Knight. As of now, the movie has been tentatively scheduled for a 2017 release, and could possibly hit before The Lego Movie sequel, which doesn’t currently have a release date.
The Hollywood Reporter says Arnett will reprise his role and, really, the Lego Batman character wouldn’t be the same without him at the helm. I mean, just watch this clip and you’ll understand why. The Lego Movie was great in its own right, though Arnett’s character was perhaps the best part of the flick. Arrogant doesn’t even begin to describe him, but he’s still lovable.
“Hey babe, let’s hold hands,” he says in the clip linked above.
Since this project is being fast-tracked, it’s seemingly taking priority over The Lego Movie sequel, which might disappoint some folks. Either way, we’re going to get a film focused solely on the Lego version of the Dark Knight, though we’re not really sure what the movie will be about. I can’t wait to see him interact with characters like Penguin and The Joker.
