Google’s Newest iPhone App Could Compete Directly with Google Now

Google just released another app through Apple’s App Store but, instead of introducing a new service, it looks like this application could compete directly with another iOS app the company already offers. Google News & Weather serves up location based headlines and weather updates, which also happen to be two of the main reasons I use Google Now.

Of course, the new app isn’t a carbon copy of Google Now. The design looks completely different, swapping the Google app’s crisp white look for a black background with gray info cards floating on top. You also get a lot more weather info at a glance, along with local news. Still, it makes us wonder if Google Now just isn’t getting as much use on iPhones as the company wants.

Unfortunately the app isn’t offering notification drawer widgets out of the gate, though hopefully we’ll see that in a future update. Google News & Weather is available for free starting today, and works on any device running iOS 7 or up. Hit the source link below to grab it for yourself.
