Along with the news of the Wii U version’s Nov. 21 release date, Nintendo announced the current sales total for Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo 3DS.
Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS has now sold more than 2.8 million copies worldwide. As the fine print in the email indicates, that number is derived from the combination of physical and digital sales. The game also had a head start in Japan where it released a month earlier. It has already sold 1.4 million physical copies to date.
The press release included a quote from Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing and super long job titles.
“Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is already in the hands of more than 2.8 million people worldwide, and the road ahead looks great…
…Nintendo’s holiday software lineup is more than impressive, and our amiibo figures start a new chapter in the world of Nintendo interactive entertainment. With so many great experiences available, this holiday season is going to be an amazing time to be a Nintendo fan.”
As for the amiibo Moffitt mentions, they’ll go on sale starting on Nov. 21. They will work with Smash for the 3DS down the line, though gamers will need to snag an NFC adapter that hasn’t been officially priced yet. That’s supposed to come in 2015.
Did you snag Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS this past week? I personally love the game, and have continued to play it despite finishing my review more than a week ago.
