Apple is to begin accepting pre-orders for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in India tomorrow ahead of their launch next Friday, October 17. Pricing starts at Rs. 53,500 ($868) for a 4.7-inch iPhone 6 with 16GB of built-in storage.
Although Apple has confirmed its new iPhone release dates for India, the Cupertino company won’t make pricing official until the devices go up on its website on Tuesday morning. However, website NDTV Gadgets claims to have obtained the information early via emails Apple has distributed to authorized resellers in India.
Here’s what they say you’ll be paying:
- iPhone 6 — 16GB: Rs. 53,500 ($868)
- iPhone 6 — 64GB: Rs. 62,500 ($1,014)
- iPhone 6 — 128GB: Rs. 71,500 ($1,160)
- iPhone 6 Plus — 16GB: Rs. 62,500 ($1,014)
- iPhone 6 Plus — 64GB: Rs. 71,500 ($1,160)
- iPhone 6 Plus — 128GB: Rs. 80,500 ($1,305)
While these prices seem a little steep in comparison to what U.S. customers are paying, the 16GB iPhone 6 costs the same as a 16GB iPhone 5s did when that went on sale in India last year, so Apple has at least tried to keep pricing similar this time around.
The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have already been incredibly successful for Apple — despite the “bendgate controversy.” A record number of pre-orders were taken when the devices were first made available to pre-order in 10 launch countries, and on opening weekend alone, more than 10 million handsets were sold.
