Apple will host a press conference to introduce new iPads on Oct. 16, Re/Code said Friday. That’s just about two weeks from now and lines up with earlier rumors that suggested Apple had plans to release new iPads in October.
Right now we’re expecting at least a new iPad Air 2 product with a faster A8 or A8x processor, Touch ID and maybe even a new gold model. It’s also possible Apple will introduce a new iPad mini with a faster processor and Touch ID, though we haven’t heard much on that front recently.
What else will Apple discuss? We don’t know yet, and Re/Code suggests the focus will be on iPads but that new iMacs will also be on deck. Still, we’re waiting for details on the final public launch of OS X Yosemite, and it’s possible that will be discussed as well. We also haven’t heard from Apple specifically when iOS 8.1 with Apple Pay will go live, but recent rumors suggest that will happen on Oct 20.
Finally, while it’s not expected until next year, we should note that rumors are still pointing toward a larger 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Will Apple surprise us with details on that, too? We’re not quite sure, but we’ll be covering everything as it breaks on Oct. 16.
