Rumors has it HTC is preparing to launch a One (M8) variant with a beefed up Duo Camera, and now we may have a first leaked look at the upcoming device. A new press image of the alleged HTC One (M8 EYE) surfaced on Chinese social network Weibo today, revealing a smartphone that’s pretty much identical to the flagship M8.
The M8 Eye is expected to be a near perfect copy of the original One (M8) with one major difference: the camera. HTC is reportedly swapping out its disappointing 4-Ultrapixel rear camera with a 13-megapixel shooter. The leaked ad also shows someone using the front-facing camera to shoot a selfie, suggesting that module could be receiving an upgrade as well.
Otherwise not much is expected to change. The new phone should offer the same Snapdragon 801 chip, 5-inch 1080p display and a 2600mAh battery. We’re also expecting it to run Android 4.4 with the same Sense 6.0 software on top.
There’s no official word on when the M8 EYE will be unveiled, but it seems pretty likely the new phone could make an appearance at HTC’s next public event. The company is set to announce “something remarkable” next week on October 8 in New York and we’ll be there in full force to cover whatever new products are on display.
