Because communicating with words is so overrated, PopKey on Wednesday officially launched its GIF keyboard for iOS 8. Rather than checking in with mom to let her know you arrived at Ben’s house, you can simply send her a GIF of Hulk Hogan ripping his shirt off. (You don’t do that?)
PopKey co-founder, Adrian Salamunovic, said the new keyboard exists because people communicate using GIFs anyway; why not make the process easier? Good point. If you’re anything like me, you scour the Web for hilarious SpongeBob GIFs, and wait for the exact moment to use them in a conversation; it’s like waiting for the right moment to tell a joke.
The app comes pre-loaded with thousands of GIFs, though you can upload your own for some extra personalization. Additionally, PopKey will give you quick access to recently used GIFs (similar to how the emoji keyboard shows you recently used emojis), and trending and featured content. What more could you ask for?
I’m already planning to spam Todd Haselton with GIFs which, let’s be honest, is really why this keyboard exists. (Editor’s Note: no you won’t).
