The Nintendo DS was Almost Named “City Boy”

Nintendo has always had a problem when it comes to naming systems, hasn’t it? The Wii U certainly should have been called something else, and the “New Nintendo 3DS” branding instantly creates confusion in headlines, press releases and, down the line, advertisements.

That problematic decision making when it comes to titling products goes back a few years in the company’s history, too. Did You Know Gaming, a popular trivia-esque series for the video game world, has released a video for the Nintendo DS.

The clip is full of cool tidbits, but the one that’s most ridiculous is the potential name of the handheld. Nintendo once considered calling the DS the “City Boy.” We assume that was the grown up take on the Game Boy, though thankfully it never stuck.

How weird would it be calling the DS the City Boy? Honestly?
