If the host of new features aren’t enough to sell you on the New Nintendo 3DS, then how about a TV spot in which all the classic Nintendo characters get a fabulous makeover from J-Pop idol, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu?
For those who don’t recognize her, the pop-star sensation is a hit with all ages, and she appears in everything from bright and cheerful music videos to commercials about glasses in which she randomly stairs at goats. Seriously, if you want a to go on a bit of mind-bender, watch this.
No doubt, Nintendo had to cough up quite a bit of cash to get a hold of her, but it was totally worth it. She is a natural fit for Nintendo’s monstrous demographic, which ranges from starry eyed children to the middle aged men on both shores of the Pacific nowadays. Not only that, but the Nintendo characters look positively “kawaii” in their new digs, especially Toon Link in his suave leprechaun get-up.
This is Japanese advertising at it’s absolute prime, right here. I subject myself to it everyday and caught this gem on my normal morning show. We can laugh and point at Japan’s outlandish sense of humor and style, but then again, who are we to judge if Nintendo believes we are supposed to relate to these weirdos?
