Instagram Hyperlapse

Instagram’s new Hyperlapse app is awesome for creating really cinematic videos, and puts what normally takes expensive equipment in the palm of your hand. Not only that, but the technology proficiently stabilizes your footage, so even if you’re running down the street while recording, your video should look silky smooth. Now imagine if the time-lapse app let you shoot these same videos in selfie mode.

Say hello to #selfielapse.

A new update rolling out today will let users switch to their phone’s front-facing camera for the ultimate video selfie. Instagram has a few suggestions for how you should go about making your new time-lapses, like standing still while the background moves behind you, or walking down the street “as your surroundings whirl by.”

“Hold up your phone as you spin around in a chair, or jump on a trampoline,” is another suggestion. “Document transformations—getting a new haircut, applying makeup or tying a tie—by propping your phone up against a wall.” Be right back while I apply some makeup.

These videos can then be shared to your favorite social networks, so what are you waiting for? Start taking those selfie lapses. Still no word on an Android version.
