Play Smash Bros. on 3DS with a Controller (and an Electrical Engineering Degree)

by Eric Frederiksen | September 25, 2014

With concerns about the ability of the 3DS to hold up to the abuse inherent to Super Smash Bros. running rampant, it’s hardly surprising that people are looking for alternative ways to play the hugely popular Nintendo game without busting their 3DS systems.

One Japanese gamer, who goes by the name Daikon, took it a step further than everyone else.

The intrepid modder has connected a Nintendo GameCube controller to his 3DS, presumably soldering the connections for each of the inputs to the corresponding input inside the 3DS. Daikon doesn’t go into the details of how it was done, but the demonstration seems entirely legitimate. The mod clearly isn’t simple or for those worried about breaking their 3DSes, but if you have the know-how, apparently you can circumvent the worries about breaking the 3DS’ analog stick entirely.

Neither we, nor YouTube user Daikon, are responsible if you choose to attempt this mod.
