New Mac Mini Set for October Release, Says Report

A MacRumors report claims Apple is planning a Mac mini update, which could launch next month during the company’s rumored event. It’s been just under two years since the Mac mini was last updated, and with OS X Yosemite on the horizon, now is a better time than any to release an updated model.

Rumors have claimed Apple’s event next month could focus on new iPads, and even a new iMac with a 5K display. Seeing a new Mac mini update would fit right in, and likely support these higher resolution displays that are imminent now that DisplayPort 1.3 is official. MacRumor’s source is scant on details; no word on internals, and no word how it’ll differ from the most recent model.

As MacRumors points out, the internal specs of the Mac mini are up for debate because of recent Intel Broadwell delays. Intel’s Haswell has served well, but Intel has a new generation processor on the horizon, so the timing is a bit odd. If Apple does indeed have an announcement planned for next month, we could see invites go out relatively soon. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for any further developments.
