When it comes to Call of Duty efforts over the last several years, the most disappointing aspect for my personal gaming taste stems from the length and nature of the campaign affairs. The recent string of entries have been known to check in around four hours, and the storylines within border on tedious.

With Sledgehammer Games at the helm of Advanced Warfare, though, we have an opportunity for change. Remember, Sledgehammer is made up of multiple developers from EA’s Visceral studio, and it built the Dead Space series initially. The company can tell interesting stories, if given the time and space to do so. It had three years for Advanced Warfare.

Now, length is not necessarily a symptom of quality when it comes to games, but the Call of Duty series has been way too short in the campaign department as of late. A Twitter user asked Sledgehammer’s Glen Schofield about the length of Advanced Warfare. Here’s that exchange:

Like I said, longer games aren’t necessarily better. Here’s hoping, though, that Advanced Warfare is just long enough and paced perfectly. Pacing, folks, is where it’s at in games with a narrative these days.

We’ll know about Advanced Warfare when it drops on Nov. 4, 2014. Stay tuned.
