United Front Games, the developer behind 2012’s Hong Kong open-world game Sleeping Dogs, has announced Triad Wars.
Triad Wars uses the engine and art that fueled that game – including the same map and mechanics – to present an online open-world affair that pits players directly against each other as warring Triad factions. Instead of a set story, you’ll build an empire, attacking other players for resources and power.
We’ve seen new games use old assets before – Crackdown 2 comes to mind – though this one of the more interesting uses we’ve seen of such tactics. I would expect the game, which is PC only, to go up for half or a third of its predecessor’s initial $60 price tag.
Triad Wars is set for release sometime in 2015. It’s not the Sleeping Dogs sequel I was hoping for, but it might hold us over until that comes along.
