Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus has been called the “best performing smartphone LCD” by DisplayMate, bestowing it with a “green” rating in all test and measurement categories. The iPhone 6, meanwhile, also received high praise, though it didn’t quite get the acclaim of its larger brother.
Of course, that makes sense seeing as the iPhone 6 Plus sports a higher resolution display. DisplayMate had this to say about Apple’s larger device, which just launched this past Friday:
The iPhone 6 Plus matches or breaks new records in LCD Smartphone display performance for: Highest Peak Brightness, Lowest Screen Reflectance, Highest (True) Contrast Ratio, Highest Contrast Rating in Ambient Light, most accurate (pure logarithmic power-law) Intensity Scale and Gamma, most accurate Image Contrast, and the smallest Variations with Viewing Angle for Brightness, Contrast Ratio and Color.
For most humans, the differences between displays on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus is slight, though DisplayMate did note that rescaled images look better on the iPhone 6 Plus, as do graphics. Still, both devices are considered by the researchers as the Best Mobile LCD Displays on the market.
It’s worth noting, however, the Galaxy Note 4 wins out overall for “best smartphone display” among both LCDs and OLEDs. Screens today look incredibly detailed no matter which manufacturer you prefer, but you can rest easy knowing the new iPhones performed quite well in testing.
