Twitter rolled out an update today designed to take advantage of one of iOS 8‘s best new features: interactive notifications. The new and improved Twitter app for iPhones, iPads and the iPod Touch also introduces a revamped profile page to match the web-based redesign we got earlier this year.
The company doesn’t offer any specific details on how its new notifications will work beyond promising you’ll be able to “engage on Twitter while using other apps.” We’re guessing it will work the same way as iMessage for iOS 8. When someone tags you in a tweet you’ll presumably be able to type out a quick reply and retweet or favorite the post without ever needing to open the Twitter app.
Twitter’s updated profiles for mobile are pretty similar to what we already get on the web, especially up top where your main picture gets pushed to the left beneath a bigger banner image. Scrolling down you’ll be presented with a list of recent tweets, though two more tabs offer the option to just look at the photos someone has shared or check out their favorites tweets from other people.
Twitter should update automatically on your iOS device, though you can head to the App Store and jumpstart the process if you just can’t wait. Of course, you’ll need to download iOS 8 first if you want to take advantage of those interactive notifications.
