Verizon Begins Shipping iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 Plus Pre-Orders

iPhone 6 vs iPhone 6 Plus spec shootout

Verizon has this weekend begun shipping the first iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus pre-orders ahead of their launch on Friday, September 19. Customers are being given their tracking numbers and they can follow their orders online, but there’s little chance their new handsets will arrive early.

Carriers have been known to send out iPhone pre-orders early in previous years — even Apple starts sending devices well in advance of their launch sometimes. But those shipments very rarely arrive before their release dates, because Apple works hard to ensure it doesn’t happen.

Although these products are classed as “shipped,” they’ve only really left the warehouse that Verizon has been storing them in. They will now make their way to your local FedEx distribution center where they’ll sit securely until Friday morning before finally being loaded onto a van and being transported to your door.

Some products may slip through and arrive early; it has been known before, but this is incredibly rare. Apple works with all of the companies involved in this process in an effort to prevent this situation from occurring, and you can bet it doesn’t go down well with the Cupertino company when pre-orders arrive before their due date.

If you get a shipping notification from Verizon or any other carrier, then, don’t get too excited just yet. You’ll still have to wait until launch day to get your hands on your shiny new iPhone — but it’ll be well worth it.
