SMS between your computer and iPhone won’t be available when iOS 8 launches next week. Not exactly unexpected, as we still don’t know when OS X Yosemite will be released; the Continuity feature, which pings you with SMS, MMS and calls, has previously been available to beta testers of both iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite.
Apple’s website says the feature won’t arrive until October, which is a bummer, but the news seems to all but confirm a Yosemite launch next month. Last year, Apple offered Mavericks on Oct. 22, so perhaps we can expect a similar timeframe.
The exact date of Yosemite’s arrival is unclear at this point, and we’re not even sure if Apple plans on holding another event in October; it might be the perfect opportunity to announce some iPad and Mac upgrades.
Until then, there’s plenty to enjoy about iOS 8 when it launches next month, including third-party keyboard support, Health, an improved Spotlight and much more.
