The sound designer for The Evil Within, Masahiro Izumi, was asked to show fans how the studio goes about creating sound effects for the game. Izumi sends some shoppers out for food and digs in.
So, sure, that sound you hear of terrifying zombies tearing into flesh? That could just be one guy eating a cantaloupe in a studio in Japan. Or chips. Or marshmallows.
This type of sound effect design, by the way, is called foley. You use real sounds from real things in order to create sound effects for things you can’t really represent in games and film. Pretty cool, right?
As awesome as this video is, every single time he digs into the cantaloupe, I reflexively groan. Man, so gross.
You can hear Izumi eat cantaloupe on your Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or PC starting on Oct. 14.
