Apple Watch Supports Third Party Apps, WatchKit Announced

Apple just announced the Apple Watch, a new wearable that can track your heart rate and so much more. The company also announced WatchKit, which will allow developers to create third-party applications that go beyond simple notifications.

Facebook can send you alerts for Friend Requests, for example, or maybe you’ll be able to print out your boarding pass from an airline. Notifications can be actionable, too, so you can decide what you want to do with them, like responding to a text message or Twitter DM.

There are already several apps available, like Pintrest, BMW, Honeywell, Nike CityMapper, American Airlines and more, though we expect the number of available apps to increase with the launch of WatchKit.
