AKB48 and Nintendo Collaborate to Sell Super Smash Bros. in Japan

Nintendo is prepping for the launch of Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo 3DS next week in Japan, and what’s a better way to cater to the attention spans of geeks everywhere than the world’s most infamously silly girl band, AKB48? A nostalgic bunch of characters who appeal to aging otaku, and a group of contrived, bubbly and giggly girls gathered for marketing purposes to appeal to aging otaku.

It’s not a stretch to see who this commercial is aimed at.

Of course, the girls from AKB48 don’t actually appear in the game, but they can be designed by creating a Mii and importing the avatar for the Mii Fighter Swordfighter, Gunner, and Brawler.¬†What are the chances that some Nintendo fans out there have the entire line-up of AKB girls already in their Nintendo 3DS’ and Wii U’s ready for just this occasion?

While you might think differently, I do not have a single member of AKB48 in my Mii collection nor do I know the names of even the most popular girls at the moment. In addition, I probably won’t even be using the Mii Fighter either. However, as for Super Smash Bros. which launches on the Nintendo 3DS on Oct. 3 in America and Wii U later this holiday season, I have just one thing I need to say.

I want youuuuuu! I need youuuuuu! I love youuuuuu!
