Nest’s Thermostat and Smoke Alarm to Expand Their Reach Across Europe

Nest’s smart thermostat and smoke alarm are set to expand their reach across Europe this month. The devices are currently only available in the U.S., the U.K., and Canada officially, but having been installed in over 120 countries so far, there’s clearly plenty of demand for them worldwide.

“For the last two years, there’s been a thermostat underground,” Nest writes on its blog. “People have hidden Nest Thermostats and Nest Protect alarms in suitcases, had them shipped over by friends, bought them on eBay and installed them in over 120 countries.”

Now Nest wants to make it easier for Europeans in some countries to get their hands on them. By the end of this month, both the Nest Learning Thermostat and the Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide alarm will be available in Belgium, France, Ireland, and the Netherlands. Customers will be able to find them in over 400 stores, and both devices will speak the language of their home country.

There’s already huge demand for Nest products across Europe. They’re now available in over 100 stores across the U.K., and the number of Nest professional installers has grown from 200 to over 900 since April. Nest is also working to build new partnerships with European energy companies, and some are already signed up.

If you don’t live in one of the countries supported by Nest, then don’t worry; the company promises that “the rest of the world isn’t very far behind.”
