Marc Newson, famous designer and close friend of Apple’s Jony Ive, has joined the Cupertino company. Vanity Fair reports Newson has joined Ive’s design team, and will contribute to upcoming Apple products; Newson has collaborated with Apple in the past, working on the special edition red Mac Pro that was auctioned off in the (RED) auction last November.
“Marc is without question one of the most influential designers of this generation,” Ive said. “He is extraordinarily talented. We are particularly excited to formalize our collaboration as we enjoy working together so much and have found our partnership so effective.”
Some high praise from one of the most respected figures in the tech industry. Design is and always has been a staple of Apple’s aura, and it looks like Apple is ready to introduce a new era of beautiful products next week. With the help of Newson, the phones and tablets the company produces will only get better.
Obviously the report doesn’t say what new projects Newson will contribute to, though we have heard Apple could be working on a larger iPad. Of his move to Apple, Newson said he is “enormously proud to join them.”
Apple, unsurprisingly, declined to comment on whether or not Newson was involved with Apple’s rumored iWatch. If he was, that’s one hell of an introduction. We’re expecting to see the wearable next week. Until then, there are still no shortage of rumors to sift through.
