Double Fine Shows How It’s Remaking Grim Fandango

Calling Grim Fandango beloved is a bit like calling Activision “one of the bigger publishers.” Bringing it up to speed for a new release is a big undertaking, and Double Fine is documenting the process in a new series of YouTube videos.

The first episode featured footage of a very young Tim Schafer and some awesome 90s camera angles and fonts.

This time around, we’re getting into some more detail with the effort to modernize the game. The team is making use of some of the improvements fans have added over the years, and you can see in the video that the team has flown out a modder as a consultant to discuss how he got point-and-click functionality working in their keyboard driven game.

One interesting decision from Double Fine is that, while the game will be brought up to modern visuals with better textures and a higher resolution, the aspect ratio of the game will not be changing, as the team wants to adhere to the original artistic vision.

Grim Fandango does not yet have a release date.
