Toshiba Unveils its 7-inch Encore Mini Windows Tablet

We’re big fans of Microsoft’s Surface lineup, especially the company’s latest 12-inch slate, but when it comes to smaller Windows tablets there’s still no clear winner. That may change today with Toshiba’s new Encore Mini tablet, which offers the full Windows 8.1 experience in a super-portable 7-inch body.

The Encore Mini packs a 7-inch 1024 x 600-pixel display, an Intel Atom processor, a 2-megapixel rear camera, a 0.3-megapixel webcam, 16GB of internal storage with microSD support, 1GB of RAM and a battery that should last 7.3 hours per charge. Toshiba is selling its mini Windows tablet for just $119.99 starting today, and throwing in 1TB of OneDrive cloud storage and a year of Office 365 for free.

We got to spend a few minutes playing with the Encore Mini and came away impressed. It runs great and looks pretty nice using Microsoft’s tile-based Modern UI. Toshiba is also pushing the ability to switch to desktop mode, though we’re not sure how useful that might be on such a tiny screen. But if you’re looking for a 7-inch slate that runs the full version of Windows then look no further, this is the tablet for you.
