Samsung is expected to jump into the world of virtual reality headsets next month with the Gear VR, an upcoming gadget the company allegedly developed with direct help from Oculus. We’re still not sure exactly what to expect from the rumored headset, but a fresh set of leaked production units offer a close-up look at the device.
Based on these photos it looks like the Gear VR may actually come packing its own built-in display, despite earlier reports that the device would rely on your Samsung smartphone as its screen similar to Google Cardboard. Either way, the new headset is expected to work with a handful of Galaxy devices. Previous leaks also revealed that the Gear VR will use your phone’s camera to let you view the real world without taking the headset off.
We’re guessing the Gear VR will make its debut alongside the Galaxy Note 4 next month at IFA, so hopefully it won’t be long before we get an official look at the device. If Samsung’s headset is anything like the Oculus Rift we can’t wait to try it out for ourselves, though we’re curious to see how the company adapts Oculus’ software to work with its own devices.
