Chances are a large portion of you have already had a go at Bungie’s incoming hit, Destiny, thanks to the popular open-beta which grabbed hold of the hot summer months. While the slow dog days of summer roll on, you have roughly three more weeks before it goes live again to satisfy the withdrawals you’ve felt ever since it wrapped up.
If it’s three more weeks away though, why taunt us with a “launch” trailer, Activision!? Are you trying to make these final summer days that much slower?
The new trailer plays out a out like it was put through the Hollywood preview-machine. Music swells and crescendos into a beautiful peak before crashing down into much harder music. Flashy edits, “fade to blacks,” fancy one-liners which sound like they were written just to be put in the trailer, action, action, boom, boom.
The only thing that is missing are wizards from the moon! That and the actual gameplay. For a trailer that hypes “gameplay,” there are certainly a lot of cinematic scenes. Some might have been captured during gameplay in-engine, but only once or twice do you actually get the first-person viewpoint that you’ll actually be playing the game in. Who am I kidding, though, Destiny looks exciting.
I skipped out on the beta while enjoying the last few months with my PlayStation 3 before making the leap and focusing on new games. My shiny new PlayStation 4 is sitting in a drawer under my TV, waiting for a release I actually want to play on it. Destiny could very well be that game when it launches on Sept. 9. It will also launch for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
