Yesterday, the Azure Striker Gunvolt creator confirmed an 8-bit crossover games with two other properties from its library, the Kickstarter monster Mighty No. 9 and the questionable Gal*Gun. One day later, it has a confirmed title, gameplay trailer for all to enjoy, and an announcement that could push an extra few copies of the incoming Azure Striker Gunvolt.
Mighty Gunvolt will be absolutely free for those who purchase Azure Striker Gunvolt within the first three months of release. Just so you don’t miss the window, the game goes live on the Nintendo 3DS eShop next week on Aug. 29 for $14.99. Inti Creates will send a code as soon as you purchase the game, and that’s all you’ll need to score your free copy.
Two Inti Creates games for the price of one. Not a bad deal.
As for the actual gameplay, Mighty Gunvolt looks like a lot of fun. It really captures the spirit and excellent level design of the NES games it is modeled after, but also shows thirty years of experience in understanding what worked and what didn’t back in the day. Think Mega Man 9 and Shovel Knight for a decent idea of what I’m talking about: games that look old, but now have a much better grasp of smart level design.
One more time, Azure Striker Gunvolt and Mighty Gunvolt go live on the Nintendo 3DS eShop on Aug. 29. Stay tuned for our thoughts on both games at that time.
