Now that Yokai Watch has become a massive hit in Japan, its company overlords have decided to grant Americans a chance to appreciate its glorious aura as well. Thanks guys, I’m so glad you are graciously humbling us. Developer Level-5 has only hinted at a release in the past, but now CEO Akihiro Hino as all out confirmed that it will be released in the West in 2015.
“We’re aiming for global expansion next year,” Hino said to news site Zakzak. “I think it has appeal as a Japanese-ish fantasy.”
“We’ve already obtained approval from an overseas toy maker, saying it will ‘absolutely be a success.’”
Yokai Watch has become Level-5’s answer to Nintendo’s Pokemon series. While the numbers aren’t quite there just yet, 2 million copies in a month is nothing either company can afford to ignore. Now we have to wait and see if the series can succeed overseas.
Yokai Watch joins Monsters Hunter 4 for a release on the Nintendo 3DS in 2015 in the ”’bout time, Japan” category.
