SteamWorld Dig Coming to Wii U Next Week

Image & Form’s excellent indie platformer, SteamWorld Dig, will be open to an entire new gaming audience next week when it launches in full blown HD on the Wii U. The developers have slapped a $9.99 price tag on it, hoping to repeat the success the game has seen on other platforms.

This new version is modeled after the PC and PlayStation 4 builds and runs at full 60fps at 1080p. It doesn’t seem as if the game will take advantage of the Wii U GamePad’s unique touch screen though since the Wii U’s pro-controller will be fully supported.

SteamWorld Dig, also available on the Vita, was one of my favorite games on the Nintendo 3DS last year back when it first launched on the eShop. Image & Form’s gem combines the best of classic Metroid exploration with a more modern trend of mining for minerals and resources to improve your abilities. The resulting combination is an insanely addictive platformer which cries for “just one more dive.”

It’s also just four or five hours long and can kill a quiet afternoon.

SteamWorld Dig on the Wii U will be available on Aug. 28. If the Wii U is not to your liking than the PlayStation 4, PS Vita, PC, and Nintendo 3DS are all viable ways to play this excellent little sleeper hit. I suggest you get on that, and I might even do so since I haven’t played it in HD yet.
