Android Wear is still just a few months old and for now there’s not much you can do on the device besides a handful of basic functions. We’re expecting at least a few more smartwatches to launch with the new OS later this year though, and now Google is doing its part to promote these devices with a series of commercials touting some of the software’s best features.
One key theme in the ads seems to be the the water-resistant design that Google requires for all Android Wear devices. We see one person surfing, a second splashed and a third interacting with a full-grown elephant, all without any fear that the water could damage their devices. Google also plays up its voice controls, which make it easy to ask a question and get the answer almost instantly, or quickly message a friend if you’re running late.
For the most part Google is still promoting Android Wear as the best way to get quick access to the company’s own services, but the new platform won’t really take off until we see more third-party developers jump onboard. Hopefully these new ads will bring more attention to Android Wear, though it could be a while before we see a truly compelling reason to pick up a Google-powered smartwatch.
