Microsoft Highlights Indies with an ID@Xbox Gamescom Reel

If you’re a hardcore PC gamer, I’ll just tell you that you can move along right now. If you’re primarily a console gamer, Microsoft’s ID@Xbox initiative has a lot for you to look forward to in the coming year even just looking at what’s in the above sizzle reel shown at today’s Gamescom 2014 presentation.

A huge chunk of these games are already available on PC via Steam Early Access or the iOS App Store, like the always entertaining Goat Simulator, Space Engineers and Threes!, but here are some of the highlights, in no particular order:

  • The Escapists – from Worms developer Team 17, this overhead game seems to be a role playing game of sorts set in a prison. The character is seen leveling up, while an unknown narrator tells you you’ll never escape. It’s good to see Team 17 getting a chance to not only work on something other than Worms, but on an intriguing concept.
  • Cuphead – This title made a splash at E3, and it’s good to see Microsoft continuing to hype it. We did a feature for the game then.
  • Smite – Multiplayer Online Battle Arena games like League of Legends and Dota 2 are a big deal, but neither of those will likely be heading to consoles anytime soon. One of the other popular MOBA titles, Smite, however, is on its way to the platform.
  • Pneuma – This puzzler built in Unreal Engine 4 is, if nothing else, gorgeous.

There are tons of other games in the video, and it looks like gamers more interested in smaller titles will have plenty to do this year.
