Jason Momoa, famous for his portrayal of Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones, is going to play Aquaman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Momoa had been rumored to take on the role for the past few months, and his appointment rounds out a cast that already consists of Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman and Gal Gadot, who we saw in her full Wonder Woman getup last month.
Aquaman is one of the seven founding members of the Justice League, and since this next film is basically setup for a Justice League movie, it’s no surprise to see his involvement. The titular superhero first showed up in DC Comics all the way back in 1941, and featured a telepathic ability to communicate with marine life, among other powers. It’s unclear how he will factor into a movie that will clearly focus on Batman and Superman, but his presence will likely be used to bring the two together, along with Wonder Woman, to create the Justice League.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was originally scheduled for a release on May 6, 2016, but it was moved up to March 25, 2016 to avoid Marvel’s Captain America 3. In addition to Dawn of Justice, an untitled DC film, potentially a Justice League movie, is scheduled to come out on Aug. 5 of that same year.
