It’s been a while since I’ve been pumped for a Kickstarter campaign, meaning it’s also been a while since I’ve had the chance to be happy in seeing one succeed. GUTS Department’s campaign for Aegis Defenders crossed the $65,000 finish line over the weekend, putting itself in the successfully funded category after just 10 days.
Admitting that the goal might be a little low for a game of its quality, GUTS’ update on its Kickstarter page brings attention to the stretch goals which will help with additional modes, music and availability. Nothing will be used to expand the scope of the game’s single player mode, and it will instead be dedicated to speeding up development.
All excellent news. I like more options and game modes. I like orchestrated music, and I hate when a game’s story drags on too long. Congratulations to GUTS Department, and best of luck over the next 23 days.
In its update, GUTS’ also pointed to another hot Kickstarter campaign for Hive Jump for PC, Mac, Linux and Wii U. Developers Graphite Lab describes the game as a classic Contra style run ‘n gunner with procedurally generated levels and a ridiculous level of sprite quality. It is looking for $50,000 and already has $12,000 with 26 days remaining. Be sure to check it out if you enjoy an excellent retro style romp like Aegis Defenders.
I’ve already crossed my monthly Kickstarter limit with Aegis Defenders, but man, this game is tempting! We’ll see how much help it needs in a week or so.
