Live in Thailand? You can’t play Tropico 5

I’m not sure how big the gaming population that exists in the nation of Thailand is, but the gamers that do exist there definitely aren’t playing Kalypso Media’s Tropico 5.

Thailand’s military government has banned the game, according to Polygon, “citing concerns for the country’s national security.”

In case you haven’t heard and are planning a trip out East, you might think about Tokyo, Hong Kong, Seoul. For now, though, you might want to skip Bangkok, Thailand – in May of this year, the nation’s government was seized by its military, which remains in control.

New Era, the company that would’ve distributed the game in the region, said that some parts Tropico 5 might not be “appropriate in the current situation.”

While New Era has to be careful what they say about the situation, developer Kalypso Media isn’t in Thailand and can be a bit more flippant.

In a statement to Polygon, global managing director Stefan Marcinek suggested that the decision sounds like “one of El Presidente’s own edicts from the game.”
