U.K. developer Futurlab is pretty confident in its upcoming game, Velocity 2X. In fact, it thinks it’s ‘game of the year’ material.
The game looks to mix gameplay styles reminiscent of games like, most obviously, Metroid, but also the hybrid of vehicular and on-foot exploration of the NES classic Blaster Master. The visual style of the game is striking, with sharp lines and glowing neon, accented by thumping electronic music.
The trailer shows off some interesting mechanics as well, like the ability to throw a projectile that you can bounce off walls and then teleport to as a way to get through otherwise impassable spaces.
With Sony hyping the game and giving it a release date so close to the beginning of September, we wouldn’t be surprised if Velocity 2X was one of the next PS Plus games.
So, is it game of the year material? We get to find out if Futurlab is right when Velocity 2X hits PlayStation 4 and PS Vita on Sept. 2. I hope it has actual badass certification as the trailer suggests.
