iPad Air 2 Shell Leak Shows Design Changes

We’re still pretty much in the dark in regards to when Apple will release its new iPads. We’re expecting the iPad Air 2 and the iPad mini with Retina display sometime this fall, perhaps after the September iPhone 6 announcement, and now we’re starting to see a large number of leaks for Apple’s next slates. Today, we’re treated to images of the alleged iPad Air 2 rear case.

AsĀ MacRumors notes, there appears to be a larger speaker on the bottom of the shell, perhaps suggesting we’ll get improved audio out of the iPad Air 2. Additionally, there appears to be a microphone hole next to the camera cut-out on the back of the device. That could be used for picking up clearer audio while recording video with an iPad. We also see the cut-outs for the Apple logo, though that’s appeared on Apple’s iPads in the past.

Again, no word on when the new iPads will hit the market, or if this part is legitimate (we suspect it is), though clearly we’re looking at some smaller design tweaks. Hopefully we’ll also get the faster A8 processor, a bump in RAM, Touch ID and other new features.
