If you haven’t noticed, we’re apparently in a golden age of science fiction space sims.
Not only do we have No Man’s Sky, Star Citizen and Eve: Valkyrie on the way, we have Elite: Dangerous, the latest in the Elite series (and the first entry in two decades) already playable in beta – for a price.
Elite: Dangerous puts you in a spaceship in a wide open, massively multiplayer, procedurally generated galaxy, yours for the taking. You can be a trader, a pirate, you can try to destabilize star systems through war and intrigue.
The game isn’t finished yet, though. You can preorder it for $50 or get in right now for $75. It’s a high price, but I’ll admit, the game looks great and, with a release window still in 2014, it has a leg up on the other titles listed above.
