Samsung Might Challenge the Moto 360 With Its Own Round Smartwatch

Samsung round smartwatch

A new patent dug up by MobileGeeks suggests Samsung is definitely, maybe working on a smartwatch with a round face. The company has pretty much covered every other entry in the smartwatch market—Android Wear, Android, Tizen and even some really cool, if not entirely necessary fitness tracker. With all the attention on Motorola’s Moto 360, it’s no surprise Samsung would explore a similar design. Let’s be honest: that’s how a watch, smart or not, should look.

Patents don’t always necessarily mean a consumer product is on the way, but with rumors of yet another Samsung wearable on the way, maybe this is it. Now it’s just a question of whether or not it’ll run Android wear, which is just gaining its footing in the wearable market, or its own home-brewed Tizen.

In addition to offering the timelessness of a rounded face, the patent also details more futuristic features, such as a gesture control system, and a charging port directly on the watch itself. Progress! The G Watch is nowhere near attractive, while the Gear Live is decent-ish. But the Moto 360? That seems to be the crowd favorite so far (even though it’s not available), so more options like that will just mean better-looking devices down the road.
