Motorola is expected to unveil a new flagship phone sometime this summer, but a new trademark filing suggests the company is working on something even bigger than the rumored Moto X+1. The phone-maker recently staked its claim to the “Moto Maxx,” suggesting Motorola might have a phablet in the works as well.
The Moto Maxx trademark, which was spotted on Wednesday by Android Police, doesn’t reveal any details about the device beyond confirming that it’s some sort of smartphone. Based on the name we’re guessing the Maxx could be a super-sized version of the Moto X+1, which is already expected to offer an impressive 5.1-inch display. It’s also possible the new device could be a follow-up to the Droid Maxx, which set itself apart with a super-sized battery and extra storage. Clearly there’s something “maxx” about this device.
Either way, the Moto Maxx should be an interesting device, especially if it offers some of the same software tricks we got with last year’s Moto X. This is just a trademark filing though, so we won’t get our hopes up just yet. There’s no guarantee this phone will ever see the light of day, and even if it does it could be a while before Motorola makes an official announcement.
