Insomniac and Microsoft took some time during San Diego Comic-Con this week to host a panel all about Sunset Overdrive. A chunk of that panel was dedicated to character customization, and they’ve released the video you see above as a result.
Drew Murray, Game Director, offers this bit about vanity up during the customization focused video you see above. It’s actually a really great quote, one that speaks to bucking the norms of game design as a studio.
“It was really important to me and Marcus [Smith, Creative Director] that vanity stay as just purely a vanity element… that we didn’t attach RPG stats or any other bonuses to it.
It was something that was a really big fight around the studio. Marcus and I just had to stand firm and say, ‘you know, it’s really important to this game that players be able to wear whatever they want to wear to express themselves.”
It is really important, right? This is Insomniac saying, “look, we know people like stat boosting and that is a major component to longevity for games, but we’re not going that route with outfits.” I’m a fan of that notion.
Sunset Overdrive will hit the Xbox One on Oct. 28, 2014. What sort of style will you aim for when it drops?
