There’s a lot to love about Windows Phone, especially once you start using the new Windows Phone 8.1 update, but one problem Microsoft is still dealing with is its lack of apps compared to iOS and Android. Microsoft is making slow but steady progress in an efforts to close the app gap, and today the company finally got Uber to release an official application for Windows Phone.
Windows Phone fans already had access to Uber, but it required opening up your browser and loading the company’s mobile site first before you could actually hail a cab. Now, Uber is finally available as an official app, and it should work around the world in over 150 cities right off the bat. Best of all, Uber is available for both Windows Phone 8 and Windows Phone 8.1, so you don’t need to latest version of Microsoft’s mobile OS to download the app.

We’re not sure what that means, but it seems pretty likely Uber will target new customers with some special promotions in the near future.
