Verizon Upgrades FiOS Upload Speeds For Free

Verizon FiOS boost

Verizon on Monday surprised FiOS customers with a pretty solid treat, announcing residential and small business subscribers will get comparable upload/download speeds—for free. If you subscribe to the 50Mbps / 25Mbps tier, for example, the upload speed will now be boosted up to 50Mbps. That offer extends all the way up to the 500Mbps download tier, which would mean an upgrade that’s 5x the current upload speed.

Verizon says the move is in an effort to please “content creators, gamers, memory-makers and teleworkers.” In such a hyper-connected world, that’s a pretty large portion of the population; half of TechnoBuffalo’s staff works from home, so fast Internet is crucial for day-to-day work, particularly when YouTube video is involved.

This is all assuming you have access to Verizon. I’m the only one on staff that subscribes to FiOS, but that’s because it’s not really widely available in a lot of the areas around here. I don’t upload much when I’m at home, but I definitely won’t complain about getting the benefits of faster upload speeds. The speed boost is free, so you don’t have to do anything. Just sit back and enjoy.
