That little announcement OnePlus teased has unveiled the company’s first StyleSwap cover, Bamboo, which is set to be available by the end of August. StyleSwap is essentially OnePlus’s version of Moto Maker, though customers have the option to switch cases out at will (so long as you’re willing to shell out the money).
Having used the OnePlus One for the past few weeks, I’m not really sure you can get much better than the Sandstone Black, which is among one of the more unique materials we’ve seen used on a phone. The Bamboo, meanwhile, is exactly what you’d expect—it makes sense that the material is the first to come off the factory line since OnePlus is based in China.
From what we can tell in the video, the Bamboo looks quite nice over such a large canvas. Plenty of engineering goes into the process of making these back plates, which is probably why they’re going for $50 a pop. If you’re set on exchanging the back you have now, you’ll be able to pick up the new cover soon. Meanwhile, OnePlus will also offer the Silk White and Sandstone Black for $30.
These are definitely luxury accessories, and the price reflects that. I’m pretty darn happy with the Sandstone, though I’d be very curious to see how the Bamboo looks in person. In addition to the three covers mentioned above, OnePlus previously announced Kevlar and Denim as part of its StyleSwap service, though it’s unclear when those will be available.
We’re giving away a OnePlus One, so if you haven’t entered you better get on it. Also don’t forget to check out our OnePlus One review, where we call it one of the best devices we’ve used so far this year.
