Oddworld New ‘n’ Tasty launches this week on the PlayStation 4, bringing the puzzle platform back to its rightful home where it started it all, on PlayStation. New developer Just Add Water has stated that this is not a full on HD remake though, and it instead has used the original 1997 classic, Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, as merely inspiration to build an entirely new game from scratch.
For those who weren’t around in the mid 1990s, Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee is a brutal puzzle platformer with a horrific and bleak setting and a dark sense of humor. Abe must free his race, the Mudokons, from slavery at the RuptureFarms meat factory and only has an army of guards and a steep learning curve between him and salvation.
Plus, he has sweet telekinetic powers too.
Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee and its twisted sense of style aided heavily in setting the new PlayStation brand name apart from Nintendo and SEGA. Oddworld New ‘n’ Tasty‘s timed exclusivity on the PlayStation 4 might just do that again, although we are quite certain it won’t be such an unforgiving game. It launches on July 23 when the PlayStation 4 Store updates this week.
