Google Glass is still struggling to transition from fringe product to mainstream device, and now the company is trying a new tactic to get more people comfortable with the new technology. Starting today Google’s Glass basecamps in New York, San Francisco and LA are open to the public, though you’ll have to schedule an appointment to demo the device.

Until today, you had to either shell out $1500 or know someone with a unit to try out Glass for yourself, but now all it takes is a few minutes filling out an online form. You’ll need to be in either NY or California to demo the device, but if you’ll be near a Google Glass basecamp any time soon it might be worth scheduling an appointment. The company also offers fittings and customer support by appointment, though for the uninitiated a “demo” is probably the best choice.

We’re still waiting for Google Glass to hit the mainstream market, and we’re hoping an official release will also mean a cheaper version of Google Glass. At least now you can try the device out for yourself without spending $1500 first.
