Microsoft’s “make your own game” game, Project Spark, has been given an official release date of Oct. 7, so mark your calendars for the day you can play around as Rare’s beloved Conker the Squirrel for a few minutes before never seeing him again.

Project Spark is a free-to-download piece of software, but you’ll have to pony up cold hard cash to unlock the elements needed to design your own exciting game out of it. That’s where Project Spark Starter Pack comes into play. Coinciding with the release of the digital Project Spark, this retail version will sell for $39.99, and it acts as a season pass which gives you access to all of the best content available from day one.

The retail package will deliver an incredible collection of premium content for $39.99, including the first sci-fi pack “Galaxies: First Contact,” the warrior champion Sir Haakon “Hawk” the Knight, “Champions Quest: Void Storm,” the first episode of an epic campaign adventure, and more. The “Project Spark Starter Pack” will provide immediate access to some of the best paid content, features and add-ons in a single package.

If you don’t want to pay the $39.99 for the entire bundle, each element will be sold separately online. Those participating in the open beta, which is well over a million people now, will have all of their unlocked content available and favorite games kept intact for the final version.

Anybody playing in the beta right now? I would give it a shot if I had an Xbox One, but sadly I don’t. I’ll just have to hold out for Mario Maker if I want to make my own games. Project Spark and the retail starter pack with be available on Xbox One and PC from Oct. 7.
