Enthusiastic Skyrim modders have been working on their Skywind mod for quite some time now, and the first public pre-alpha test will soon be available. The group has used a video showing off in-engine footage of their mod to make the announcement.
No further details as to “when” or “how” have been made yet, and the studio isn’t taking any questions, only stating that “It will be revealed in time exactly what a public developer release is.”
For those who haven’t heard, this mod is an enormous recreation of The Elder Scroll III‘s kingdom, Morrowind, from the ground up in Skyrim‘s engine. Many fans of the series are eagerly anticipating its release including Skyrim developer Bethesda itself, which has given the mod its own stamp of approval.
For what it’s worth, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has been one of the biggest successes in video games over the last few years, providing a rich experience that you simply can’t be away from for too long. With so many “one and done” games coming out these days, I’m ecstatic that not only has one emerged which demands such replayability, but also continues to grow and expand with the publisher’s blessing.
Its 30 million plus sales have put it in the exclusive ranks of Mario, Grand Theft Auto and Minecraft as the best selling franchises of the generation, a list of names very telling of the kind of “built to last” games and franchises we need to see more of. If only everybody could make games that had shelf lives like these.
