Verizon Billing System Goes Down

Having a hard time paying your Verizon bill today? Don’t worry, it’s not you, the company has been experiencing system outages around the country today that have prevented customers from accessing their bills. Verizon confirmed that the system has been down and told Re/Code that customers in the Midwest and Northeast are most affected, though customers in “some southern states” will also notice outages.

It’s unclear what has caused the issue or when the system will be back up and fully functional. Outages aren’t uncommon, though there’s always a security concern when they do happen, especially these days when cybercrime is more common than ever. A billing system could be a particularly prime target since it has customer privacy and payment information. Verizon told Re/Code that it hasn’t been hacked, however, which should put those fears to rest for now.

You shouldn’t have any issue with other Verizon services — but if you’re trying to pay your bill or access your account you may have some to wait a while.
