Zelda Can Hold Her Own in Hyrule Warriors

You won’t find any damsels here. Zelda in Hyrule Warriors is trained to handle herself and aid Link in battle rather than simply be his reward for conquering the forces of evil.

The queen of Hyrule, yes she’s the queen this time around, isn’t quite as flashy or over-the-top as Link or Impa, but she wields a rapier with a far more efficient method of fighting. Elegant stabs and graceful slashes are more the maiden’s style of wearing down her enemies. Once they are weak enough, Zelda really knows how to let loose.

Her ultra attacks range from magical blasts of every element: ice, fire, lightning, wind, and holy. Pick your poison. It’s hard to tell if these are the lucky ones, because those that survive the magic blasts are subject to her massive bow and arrow. The queen can magically craft the weapon in her hand as a charge attack and takeout entire columns of enemies in her path.

I’m officially running out of things to say about Hyrule Warriors. Nintendo is more than happy with its reception, and it obviously doesn’t want to slow down. We’ve gotten a new trailer every day this week featuring three of the four characters revealed at E3. Will we be seeing that annoying little imp Midna next?

Hyrule Warriors will be released for the Wii U September 26.
